Steve Oakes

Steve Oakes is assistant director of sixth form at The Blue Coat School in Oldham, where he has worked with his A Level Mindset co-author, Martin Griffin, for the past eight years. For each of the last five years, progress measures have placed AS and A level students at The Blue Coat School in the top 10 per cent nationally. Together with Martin, Steve has developed and delivered an extensive range of consultancy courses; including work for both the London and Manchester Challenge Programme to improve sixth forms across the country.

What we’ve been up to…It’s been a really busy week! In addition to the training we’ve been doing with schools, we were honored to be invited to present at the Pixl6 conference at City Hall Westminster. It’s an amazing venue right across the road from Westminster Abbey. We had been told that there were six hundred schools attending! What we’ve been up to…The A Level Mindset questionnaire is ready at last! It’s taken us ages to get to this point but it’s here. Phew! It works like this: Your students respond to forty or so questions, entering their responses and hitting ‘submit’. Their responses are put through our special piece of technological equipment and they receive a rating out of ten for Vision, Effort, Systems, Practice and Attitude.
