This phenomenal work by the Dean of American Hypnotists is the most comprehensive text ever to be published on stage hypnotism. It also has widespread therapeutic applications. The first section, Mastering Hypnosis, covers the history of the subject together with an extensive description of how to use the power of suggestion. The second section, Entertaining with Hypnotism, describes how to design and perform a modern hypnotic show and includes extracts from some of the most successful and exciting shows ever performed. Everything is covered, from opening the show to the best ways of advertising. There are also chapters on the business aspects of hypnotism and how to avoid lawsuits.

Reviews

  1. This phenomenal work is not only the most comprehensive book ever to be published on stage hypnotism, it also has widespread therapeutic applications as well. I am confident that even the most experienced practitioner of hypnosis will gain new skills from this important work.
  2. Ormond McGill has produced a masterwork on Stage Hypnosis all inclusive of his previous work but with much new, up-to-date material added for today's mastery.
  3. Ormond McGill is one of this century's greatest names within the field of stage hypnosis. Many professionals have taken part in McGill's extensive knowledge in this field. This bible of hypnotism is primarily directed to professionals working with hypnosis or stage hypnosis and can with great advantage be used as a clear handbook and source of inspiration for this group. For the ones that are really in to hypnosis and wants to know more, this is a goldmine.

    Grade: Very much worth reading
  4. On first glance the book is fairly intimidating because of its size and number of pages. However, it certainly has an impressive content list and subject range in terms of how to apply hypnotism in a stage setting. I found that despite my interest in altered states I found the book daunting and difficult to digest and comprehend.

The pictures certainly helped to re-inforce the methods being talked about and the bit at the end of the book helping hypnotists to set up a business is a good idea and has some really practical tips that can be modernized and used for marketing, advertising and ensuring legal framework is in place. This book is definitely for the more dedicated hypnotist and a definitive guide for those who wish to do stage work rather than someone who just wants to practice hypnotism for things like phobias or stopping smoking.

The one thing I appreciated as someone who has not trained in hypnotism were the simple exercises that demonstrate the power of altered states and how the mind/body interaction is very powerful. Whilst stage hypnotism is viewed by many as magical, the book clearly explains that we all contain the ability to use these states to create better mind sets for health, wealth and happiness.

Recommended for those who wish to become better presenters of the art and science of hypnotism.
